Hailing from Kent, the garden of England, I completed my undergraduate Biochemistry degree at the University of Bath before moving up to sunny Scotland for my PhD at the University of Edinburgh where I learnt to solve protein structures by X-ray crystallography.
I continued to city-hop with a 7-year postdoc at Imperial College London, working with professor Dale Wigley on the structure/function of bacterial DNA repair complexes. Now, after gaining several years of experience in electron microscopy, I have relocated back north to the University of Leeds and have had the pleasure of working in the Ranson & Radford groups since October 2020 as an MRC-funded postdoc. I’m currently working on the challenging field of amyloid protein fibril structures, in particular using cryo-EM and trying to link fibril structures to those found in human diseases.
Outside of the lab I try to get myself away from the computer screen by exploring the great scenery on offer on our doorstep here and further afield, and I’m always keen to play any sports, particularly football, tennis & squash.
